MUSIC THEORY

Information

Music theory is the study of the fundamental elements and principles that form the foundation of music. It encompasses a wide range of topics, from the basic building blocks of music such as notes, scales, and chords, to more complex concepts like harmony, melody, rhythm, and form.

Understanding music theory is essential for musicians, composers, and music enthusiasts as it provides the tools needed to analyze, create, and perform music with a deeper comprehension of its structure and function.

From Grade 6 onwards, students engage in both analytical and practical exercises. They analyse scores to identify theoretical concepts in action, compose their own music using the principles they have learned, and perform exercises to internalize these concepts. This holistic approach ensures that students not only understand the theoretical aspects of music but also know how to apply them in real musical contexts.
